NEUROTOXIN

WHAT ARE NEUROTOXINS?
Neurotoxins are injectable substances used in facial aesthetics to temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, creating a smoother, more youthful look. The most common neurotoxin is botulinum toxin type A, found in FDA-approved products like Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau.
HOW DO NEUROTOXINS WORK?
Neurotoxins target the nervous system by blocking the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter responsible for triggering muscle contractions. When injected into specific facial muscles, they temporarily relax those muscles, preventing them from contracting and forming dynamic wrinkles —lines caused by repetitive facial expressions like frowning, squinting, or smiling. The effect is localized, controlled, and medically precise. Results typically begin within 3-5 days, with full effect at 10-14 days.

WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?
Neurotoxins can be used to treat various areas of the face and neck to reduce wrinkles and achieve a smoother appearance. Common treatment areas include:
-
Forehead: Smooths horizontal lines caused by raising eyebrows.
-
Glabellar Lines: Reduces vertical "11" lines between the eyebrows.
-
Crow’s Feet: Softens lines around the outer corners of the eyes.
-
Bunny Lines: Minimizes wrinkles on the sides of the nose from scrunching.
-
Lip Lines: Softens vertical lines above the upper lip (smoker’s lines).
-
Chin: Reduces dimpling or "pebble" texture on the chin.
-
Jawline/Masseter: Slims the face or relieves jaw clenching by relaxing masseter muscles.
-
Neck Bands: Smooths vertical platysmal bands for a more youthful neck.
Neurotoxins can also be used for subtle lifts, like raising the eyebrows or corners of the mouth, depending on injection placement. A qualified provider tailors treatments to individual goals for natural results.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long do results last?
Results typically last 3-4 months, depending on metabolism and muscle strength. More active people or people with stronger muscles of facial expression typically see shorter duration than less active people with weaker muscles of facial expression.
Will I look "frozen"?
While some clients prefer a treatment that results in softening of dynamic wrinkles but still offers natural movement and balanced expression, we realize many clients prefer a treatment that results in maximal treatment of dynamic wrinkles with minimal or no muscle movement. That is why we listen to your goals and formulate an individualized treatment plan in accordance with those goals.
Additionally, as every person is unique, you may require more or less units than another person. This is why we keep detailed records of your treatments and use this information to guide future treatments.
Are neurotoxin treatments safe?
Yes. Neurotoxins have been used safely in a variety of clinical applications for decades. While adverse reactions or results can occur, thankfully these are rare and short-lived due to the toxin losing its effect over a few months.
When should I start neurotoxin treatments?
Many people begin treatments in the 20s or 30s as a preventative measure, but treatments are beneficial at any age.
How often should I receive neurotoxin treatments?
This is a personal decision for each individual, so it is impossible to make a recommendation. Many of our clients come in for regular treatments every 3-4 months to maximally prevent dynamic wrinkles, while others schedule about 1 month before the holiday season.
